The Art Of Vanishing-Book Review/Giveaway/Author Interview

About the book (provided by Great Escape Book Tours)
When Professor Lila Maclean is sent to interview celebrated author and notorious cad Damon Von Tussel, he disappears before her very eyes. The English department is thrown into chaos by the news, as Damon is supposed to headline Stonedale University’s upcoming Arts Week.

The chancellor makes it clear that he expects Lila to locate the writer and set events back on track immediately. But someone appears to have a different plan: strange warnings are received, valuable items go missing, and a series of dangerous incidents threaten the lives of Stonedale’s guests. After her beloved mother, who happens to be Damon’s ex, rushes onto campus and into harm’s way, Lila has even more reason to bring the culprit to light before anything—or anyone—else vanishes.

And I thought...
A different kind of setting for me.  The academic setting was a bit unusual for me.  My sister would love this book.
This one was a little bit of a slow read for me.
I think I would have enjoyed it more had I read the previous book.
There are a few other surprises in this unusual cozy mystery.
Lila's character is interesting.  She seems to stumble along and solve the mystery without a lot of effort or seeming
expertise.
There is a  little hint of romance in the installment.
I look forward to going back to the beginning with this one and then reading through to the next.

An interview with the author...

Welcome Cynthia .  Thanks so much for taking a moment to chat about your new Book.    Please promise me you won’t be Vanishing will you?
I promise. Thanks so much for hosting me, Sherry!

Before we get into the book can you tell us a little about yourself?  I’m always interested where people live.  What their hobby’s are and.  Pets.  Do you have pets?
We live in Colorado, with a very sweet but somewhat overly bark-y dog. I’d love to pick up some hobbies but mostly I’m just trying to juggle parenting, writing, and teaching.

If you could live and write anywhere where it be?
Near a large body of water—maybe one of the Great Lakes or an ocean. Anywhere with sand and waves.

Let’s settle in now and talk about that book.  Tell us about The Art Of Vanishing.
Professor Lila Maclean is on the planning committee for the school’s annual Arts Week event. Pretty much everything goes wrong and she must try to figure out what’s happening and who is behind it.

Lila sounds like an interesting character.  Can you tell us a little more about her.
She’s in her first year at Stonedale University and eager to be a successful professor, but she’s not sure that she fits in there. There’s much to learn about how things work, and she tends to find out the hard way what is NOT to be done.

Oh I can only imagine a movie.  Who would play Lila’s character?
Maybe someone who is a combination of Sandra Bullock and Emma Stone?

How did you develop Lila’s character?
I thought about the first book for fifteen years before I began writing it, so I had a pretty good sense of who she was; the rest I learned through the writing.

Is there a love interest?
Yes. It’s not a primary focus, but it’s there.

Thanks again for spending a few minutes to chat.  Before we go I have to ask what’s next.
Book three is underway...

Can you give us a sneak peek at the next book?
Lila will be once again confronted with mysterious things! :)

Thank you.  It's for a lovely chat.  We are all waiting for more mysterious things!
