Hand Stitichin'

A little sloooooow Hand Stitchin'.
Here's a few Works in Progress. Working on accomplishing my goal of getting some things completed.

First Liberty from my 4th of July quilt.  I better get rockin'!
I cracked up when I took the pic. The L is backwards.
But it is only basted so time to fix.
I love blocks that overlap.
the L is intended to be partly on the block to the left.
The black line after the Y is an exclamation point.

I love the hot dog.  It is so cute.
Next to it is supposed to be a glass or cup.
I think I'll change it to red and redo the pattern a little to look like a Solo drink cup.

Next the pitcher of lemonade.  Minus the lemons.  Gotta get them added.
This one was a little hard it was reverse applique.
Whew lots of work!

And next a work of love . . .

This is the cathedral window quilt I started for my daughter.
Waaaay before I realized you can make one on the machine.

I am to the point where I am sewing the rows of blocks together
so I need to add the patches in between the blocks.

Alot of hand stitchin'  I have only been working on it in the winter.
I don't know why. I just seems to work.
I think I need to get a little more productive and maybe do a little hand work everyday!

Blue Monday Memory Lane Quilts

I've had a few people emailing and asking information about my days teaching quilting and ministry to at risk teenagers.
I didn't realize how many Blue quilts we made . . .

Here are a few . . .

We spent a lot of time around this table with a few quilts hanging around.

One of our fundraisers.   Kids posing in front of a few quilts.
Some Blue.  Oh and lots of Blue Denim!

This was a fun trip down memory lane.

Thanks for coming along The Journey today . . .

Swaaaaeeeeeeeeet Plans For Saturday

Ideas for a fun Saturday . . .

Maybe begin our day early and drive to the lake
Reflections before Dawn

And then . . .

Maybe a drive in the country
What a beautiful site to see on a fun country drive.

Now if  I was in Iowa this is where I would head . . .

A country drive to visit a Country Quilt shop.

Or maybe . . Something a little different.

Maybe I could take Daisy to a dog park and she could meet a new friend.

Maybe my favorite place for lunch . . .

Yummy!

And then maybe back to Main Street for a little window shopping.

So what are you going to do on Saturday?

What a fun Journey Today thanks for coming along!

5 MInute Friday--Bare

Bare . . .
Take a deep breath. You made it. It’s Friday. Got five minutes? Let’s write. Let’s write in shades of real and brave and unscripted. Let’s just write and not worry if it’s just right or not.

Go . . .
Bare . . .Bare(ing) my soul . . .
It wasn't so long ago that the cupboards were Bare.
At least mostly Bare.  It always seems there is stuff in there but not stuff you can eat.  Noodles and no sauce.  Bisquick no milk.
And it goes on and on.
For about 5 years my Cowboy and I worked (volunteered) at the local foodbank.
We packed groceries every week.  We packed groceries to be sent to the Houston/Galveston area. (after the hurricane)  To people who's cupboards were Bare. Who's homes were Bare.  To people that didn't even have a home or a cupboard.
And all the time no one knew that we were in similar predicaments.
The cupboards were Bare.  We even went to a local food pantry.  It was a sad and upsetting experience.  As I walked away with a meagor box of random food items I wondered how the people that really need it survive.  Not that we really didn't need it but we knew in our hearts our situation was temporary. And it was to some extinct.  We have food in the pantry now.  There is a long list on the fridge for the shopping trip today.  And I am praying that we manage to complete the list.  The cupboard is not Bare.
I am grateful.  And I am sad when I think of the cupboards that are Bare . . .

The topic of homelessness and hurting and hungry  is close to my heart.  I know that  feeding people and digging water wells in other lands is important and worthy of support.  But it is important to realize that there is a huge need in our own country.  If your like me and I am sure you are you live in a fairly affluent area.  I see by your blog posts most of you are actually much better off than I am.  It is hard to see in our own litle world.  Ocassionally you may pass someone on a street that looks a little down and out.  There are countless people, families living in poverty right her in our own little world.

Guest Post Crafty In Crosby Tutorial

Hi Everyone! This is Leigh and Jeanette from Crafty In Crosby.

Thanks to Sherry at My Journey Back for inviting us over!

We feel like stars!

Here's a little bit about us -

Photobucket

Now on to the good stuff! We thought we would share our Valentine Yarn and Coffee filter wreath post with you today.
Yarn & Coffee Filter Wreath
After seeing all the great yarn wrapped wreaths on Pinterest, Leigh and I decided we needed to make one for the Valentine's Mantel. I wanted a ruffle behind it and thought that coffee filters might work. What do you think?

Valentine's Day, Wreaths, Hearts, Coffee Filters

This was a super quick and easy wreath that you could make in an hour.

Here's how to make it.

1. Wrap a styrofoam with yarn.

2. Fold a coffee filter in half and then in half again. Like this -
3. Place a dot of hot glue inside the fold down at the tip.

4. Fold the tip up and place a dot of hot glue inside to hold it down. Like this -

5. Then glue the coffee filters to the back of the wreath all the way around. I used about 20 filters.

6. For the rosettes, just grasp the middle of an open coffee filter and twist it into the desired shape.

7. Add your heart accents and glue on to the wreath. The large hearts are picks from the Dollar Tree and the small ones are from a package of table scatter.

Ta Da! You're done!

I made the wreath to go on my mantel but it is extremely difficult to take a good picture in our family room due to the glare on the large framed piece from the transom windows! But here it is -

I just love how quick and easy this was to make, plus it is just so darn cute!
Hope have a wonderful Valentine's Day and thanks again to Sherry for inviting us to visit!

Wasn't that a fun project.  When I saw it over at Crafty in Crosby I had to ask the girls to come over and visit and share it here.

Thanks for Joining the Journey . . .

Tweak It Tuesday I am bored with my mantle

I am already, ready to change the mantle . . .
I get bored so easy.  I haven't even really shared this one with you.
So now it's time!  Because I am bored with it and ready to change.

It needs some fem, chic, chippy, whitness I am a thinkin'.

Take a look what do you think?

My Cowboy calls it Shabby Chuck . . .

A few of the elements . . .

Vintage framed Texas Flag, Texas Ranger and Revolver shadow box purchased in Longmont, Colorado.  When we missed living in Texas.
The tallest white candle is a thrift sale find a brand new Pottery Barn Candle.  I tweaked it with some damask fabric and
burlap that I cut off the bottom of a Christmas tree.  Thrifty and Chic!  The glass that the small candle is sitting on was thrifted at my mothers it was a vase from flowers.  I love that it is square.
The jar candle was another thrifty find at my mothers apartment. The common room has a table that people put things that they don't want.  She gets the candles for me.

The grouping on this end has another Pottery Barn candle (I got 2) The star in the front is actually a curtin rod hanger.  The hanger part is hiding under the suede.  Which is a suede wrap skirt that I used to wear.    The bronze was bought when we used to go to The Rocky Mountain Elk Club dinners and auctions.  It is sitting on a miniture hope chest I got when I was in high school.

I covered it with a piece of vintage crochet.  I just couldn't let Shabby Chuck completely take over.

The two candle sticks were at a garage sale.  They are really heavy.  I really like them.  As you can see I need new candles.  One was completely gone!  They melted really fast.  Won't buy them again!

So that's the Shabby Chuck mantle . . . I am thinking it needs a little
or maybe a lot of Tweaking.  Maybe ditch the whole Cowboy theme and go with a little . . .

Chippy White now we're talkin'.

Thanks for visiting the Journey today.  May your day be filled with Joy.

Before you go.  Go back up and look at the photo with the fire in the fireplace.  Look really, really close.  What do you see?
