Valentine's Day, what could be more romantic than the fictional courtships of authoress Jane Austen. And what better time to celebrate these love stories, then the 200th Anniversary of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

Let's have a look at some images from this great novel.

A portrait of Miss Austen.

It was a great era for poetry and literature. To bad our modern technical scientist couldn't invent a time travel machine, I think I could happily spend a day in the world of the Bennet's and Darcy's!

Happy Valentine's!!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge in Purple

I had a few goals for the year.  One was to get more quilts made.
I am being inspired by many wonderful quilters.
One has a monthly challenge.  This months challenge is the color Purple.
Here's what I am working on . . .

This is a quilt for my daughter.  I am really hoping to finish by Valentines Day.

This quilt has been a huge challenge for me.  First it almost covers my King Size bed.

I am quilting it on a standard home machine.  My Bernina decided to get sick so I was using a backup Singer.  Then it got sick.

The quilt is basically finished with binding but I really want to add a little more quilting to it in the purple areas.

Another challenge.  I chose this fabric because it is what I had and I needed something between the pieced sections.  It was a bad choice.  No let me change that a really, really bad choice.  There is something about this fabric. It has some sort of a texture...that really isn't the word it is like a film on it.
Kind of like wax.  It had a waxy feel.  So I washed it and that seemed to help.  It pieced ok.  But then when I started quilting those sections I ran into trouble again!  I really think that is what happened to the machine.

Really weird.  I have never had something like this happen before.

This quilt although it has provided many, many challenges for me is a work of love.

I am calling it Bloom.  My daughter's divorce (hopefully) will be finalizing on the 26th.  It has been a long road for her and our grandson.

I am so proud and amazed at her spirit and her faith in God.
She has bloomed so much over the last year and a half.

Now that this quilt is finished I was thinking I needed a challenge and an inspiration.

Not like I don't have a bunch of WIP's going along but something new is always good.  Right.

So here's my plan at least the fabric choice . . .

I pulled out a few Purples (the one with the hearts is really purple don't know why it looks blue here.)

Now what pattern should I use.  Any ideas?

Denise and Cocoa Guest Post Woof

Hello everyone, this is shortybear from over at shortybears place. Shhhhh, Coco, and I are hijacking
Sherry's blog today.

Of course, Coco is trying to act innocent, but, I have pictures, lol. Coco likes Daisy(Sherry's dog), but, she does not like to share. She said this blog is not big enough for the two of them!!

She thinks she is the bomb(thinks being the key word here, lol). She has been in a very destructive mood recently. We bought her a bed pillow for Christmas, two days later, it had been destroyed, followed by three of the new toys we bought her for Christmas. Folks, things are not looking good for next Christmas. At this point, she is already at the top of Santa Paw's naughty list!! Her response-What? I am innocent, oh yea, I am cute too.

I love you momma. Yea, right!! Well, we have to run for now, cannot let Sherry, and Daisy find us. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Enjoying a Restful Journey . . .

Quilting Progress

A Lovely Year of Finishes

One of my goals this year was to get to spend more time making quilts.  In January month I  spent most of my time finishing this quilt . . .
This one has been a challenge in a millon ways.  I began it with no pattern.  Just an idea in my head.
I wanted it to be happy!  It is completely made of scraps except the purple sections.  The purple fabric choice was a huge mistake.  It was very hard to sew on.  The flowers are machine appliqued and
embellished with machine embroidery.  It is actually complete and put together with the binding but I need to add a little more quilting.  The machine I use for quilting decided to take a holiday so I am
a little stuck on this one.

At least for now.
I am loving this one.  I started it possibly to give to my sister because it is much more modern looking( at least to me) than anything I have ever done.  But I like it so much I want to keep it.

But I know I won't.

This one needs to be quilted.  I love this little tiny work of art.  It  is just a small quilt but I love the colors.  I plan to put it in my shop.  It would make a perfect doll quilt for a special little girl.

And last a little wall hanging I want to get quilted this month.

I love this little wall hanging.  I designed it with various patterns.  The trees are paperpieced versions of Country Threads style trees.  The snowmen are also paper pieced from another project. A pattern I downloaded a long time ago off the internet (way before blogging. LOL)   The snowmen are made from warm and natural batting.  It gives them some texture and looks really cute. The brown tree trunks are flannel.  So they add another element of texture.  The entire piece is cotton and flannel and brushed cotton.

I am going to have a busy month.  And it's a short month.  I better get to that sewing machine.   Wish me luck!

The App That Changed My Life

Yes an App changed my life . . .
Do you have a dilemma in your house?
Or a bit of a disagreement going on with your darling man?

There has been one going on here.  The Cowboy and I just can't agree on where the new flat screen t.v. should go.

His idea was something like this . . .

                                             Source

My idea was something more like this . . .

                   Source
Well a little like this.  Not exactly but not above the fireplace.  Do you know how long I have waited to have a fireplace again?  I so dreamed of decorating my mantle.  And then it happened we got to move in October and I got a fireplace.  Yea.  The only dilemma was in May we got a flat screen.
Now at the time I was so super happy about the t.v. because it replaced a dinosaur big screen.  You know the kind that is huge and takes up the entire space and it sticks out almost 3 feet into the room and is just gag me ugly!  It's gone.

But now we're in this dilemma because I want the mantle to look like this . . .
Yes I know my picture is a little small.  But I was working with what I had!  I loved my mantle at Christmas!  We were so busy I never took pics till after Christmas and never posted them!   But here it is in all it's glory with part of my collection of Santa's.

So you see we compromised.  But the tv didn't end up on a table.  It ended up smack dab in the middle of the fireplace!  Yep no fires around here.

And the Cowboy loves it there.  The good thing is it really hasn't been cold enough for a fire.

We're still in this little bit of a 'discusion' I'll call it.  Luckily we haven't had the money for the mounting bracket to hang it so I am still decorating the mantle.

But yesterday he compromised and lit a fire . . .

Isn't it the prettiest fire?  I was in the kitchen and I heard a noise and couldn't figure out what it was.
I asked.  He answered "It's the fire."  I said "What" and came into the room and yes what I was hearing was the crackling of a fire.

Have you figured it out?  Look really, really close.  It is the t.v.  still smack dab in the middle of the fireplace with a video of a charming fire.   All compliments of an App on his Kindle!  It lasts a little over an hour.  You can just replay it over and over if you want.

I just think that this is the coolest thing!  I still want to talk him into putting it on a piece of furniture but for now this works!

So don't you think it's cool?  I think this is one of those things that needs to be shared.  I know there are lots of you out there with the same dilemma.

So I am linking with all the parties.  Because it is a Thrifty idea,  And because it is one we ladies old and young can share and appreciate, and because it is my favorite thing today, and just one of those little things, and it is just really a cool idea and on and on.

So I bet you've already decided to try it.  So has an app
changed your life?

Take a pic and let me see!

Have a wonderful day enjoying your Journey,

Sherry
