Saturday's Are Sweet

Saturdays are sweet when . . . 
So? How would you finish that sentence.  There are many things that make my Saturday Sweet.
Today it is this . . .

Don't you just looooooooove my 'do?  And did you see my sweet curtins.  I am about to rip them down and make a shower curtin or quilt out of them.   That would be a repurpose!

HeHe.  That's really not me or anyone I know.  I don't know this beautiful girl either . . .

So seriously I am sewing and this is what I've been doing . . .
 
Just a few of the blocks that will be pages in an I Spy Book.

I saw the idea on Pinterest.  The original made 6" pages but I chose to make mine 8"
I used a few orphaned blocks.  A great way to use this Pinwheel that wasn't quite perfect.  Do you see what's wrong with it . . .
 
I didn't purchase any fabric.  These are all made from scraps from quilts I've made.  The dog and cat prints are from a quilt that I made my daughters dog.

Alot of the scraps are from fabric donated to the ministry that I was involved in.  We made baby quilts.
I have a lot of the left over fabric.

I was at a bit of a disadvantage when I sat down yesterday to make these blocks.  My dumb iron decided
to stop working.  So that is why they are so wrinkled.   Hopefully tomorrow we'll stop and buy a new one on the way home from church.   I resorted to laying the blocks under stacks of books.  Didn't help much.

I've put away these blocks at least for today because I have one more project that I want to finish for Monday.  The books can wait till later in the week or even next week.

Here's the main thing I want ready . . .

I'm making a collection of ABC's for the children to play with.  Got a few more to go.  I left the template on the A because the opening was too small to cut.  I need to get The Cowboy to give me an Xacto knife.
Have no idea where he has one.  I used bulletin board punch out letters for my template and just pinned them on and sewed around them.  There is scraps of batting between.

These will be perfect to put in a basket for the children to play with.  I'll use in circle time and I can attach them to the bulletin board.  I have another set of larger letters I am working on but not ready to reveal.
Oh that's a teaser! You'll have to come back by to see. HeHe.

So that's whats making my Saturday Sweet.  Sewing is always sweet to me!  At least when I'm sewing what I want!

Fall Sewing

Can you believe it's Thursday already?  The week has flown by.  I am off this week and I've buried myself
in the closet . AKA. . . my sewing room.  Yes it's in a closet.  Click here to sew my creative space.
   Here's what I did . . .

I finished a fall quilt.  The top is done and ready to quilt.  Which I hope will happen on the weekend.  I'm still deciding what I want to put on the back.

And, I've been doing some sewing for my classroom at school . . .

This is a cute little fall apron for the home center.  I originally intended to trim with orange pom poms but
would you believe Hobby Lobby had no orange!  Of all things.  I have enough fabric left for a couple more hopefully I'll find some orange.  Might have to send the Cowboy to JoAnn's.  Oh the horror!

I recently made an I spy quilt for my grandson.  I have a ton of fabrics.  Including a lot of small pieces.

So I am off to sew in the closet.

Sunday Sketch

Sunday Sketch.  It's a new for me linky party.  It's interesting how things seem to fall together.
For awhile I've been looking at doodles and drawings and illustrations of scripture.
I've even tried myself illustrating some scripture.  I made some drawings for my daughter for Christmas.
I've been fascinated by the bloggers that illustrated scripture and use Bibles made especially for the purpose.
There are some very nice versions on the market which allow you to some very nice illustrations and some
day when I am much better maybe I'll purchase one.
But until then I am using a Bible I already own . . .

I chose this Bible/version because the pages are thick and I can paint them and not have any bleed over.
I had notice the last Bible that I bought certain pens bled through. I was disappointed the pages were so thin.
Here are a few pages that I have already illustrated . . .

In this particular version there is a lot space available to doodle.  Call me weird but I just have a problem with writing over the word.

My plan here is to add some watercolor to the drawings .
Notice the small hearts are in the margins.  Leaving the wrote unaltered.

I'm still planning to do some drawings for my daughter.  I have a few that I've started in my composition
book.  I'm not real happy with my lettering so I'm spending some time practising.

I'll add some ink and possibly paint.

Here's the sketch I shared last week.


I made a few changes after I added the color.  It's a little shiny I used some water color paints.  I want to add some watercolor in pink to finish it off.  I like the addition of the jewels.  I wanted to give it lots of bling.

This is one doodle/sketch that I'll be redrawing as one of the sketches for my daughters Christmas gift

Cottage Decor Project

Just a few days ago I finally decided to refer to my humble apartment as a cottage . . .


The stone has a cottagey feel.  At least I like to think so.  My decorating style isn't cottage at all.
I like to call it Eclectic.
 
Wouldn't you call glass and spurs a bit Eclectic?

My mantle is an extreme in the other direction . . .

It's glossy white.  I planned to paint. Someday.  It's surrounded by vintage things.  My tea cart is next to the vintage ice chest.  Below you can see just a corner of an old wooden box.

Now do you agree I am Eclectic?

And so since I am so Electic I thought it be fun to do an Eclectic Gallery wall.  I have this huge wall behind my couch that is just itchin' to get covered.

Of course I've gone to pinterest for some ideas . . .

Love this one.  Just nice and subtle.  Nothing 'out there' kind of understated.  I love the console cabinet underneath.  Reminds me of my mothers stereo.  Dawng I wish I had it.  I wondered if its in storage.
Might be.  Someday we might all be rich when we get to clean it out.  Nah...we'll just be happy vintage collectors!

Now this looks like me.  But not so much The Cowboy.  Love the combination of textures.  The white and the rustic wood and then look at the floor cloth.  Love the wall!   Now that is kinda where I'm headed.

 I just want this entire stairwell.  Love how they turned the corner.  I can't help but wonder how tall the
ceiling is.  Our stairwell is two stories.  And I am just not sure what to do with it.  I'm just afraid anything
I hang will look funny with tons of space above.  So it stays 'naked' For Now hehe.

I'm drawn to this one mostly because of the lay out and use of shapes of frames. Not so much the
photos or matting.  I do like the animal skull included.  The Cowboy will be real happy to display some of his trophies.

Well I have some fabulous ideas.  I am inspired.  Now the next step is to show The Cowboy and send him
off huntin'.   Not in the woods this time at our favorite thrift shops.  He is a great hunter.

My Collection Of Books

Welcome to a mini tour of my library . . .
I love a good book .   The Cowboy loves a good book.  We have lots and lots of books.


A few horse themed books sit on an antique library table in our living room.  The slant stand was made by the Cowboy in wood shop in High School.


A few more are stacked next to the computer.  a lamp sits on top.


We have a mini office area that has a shelf.  Part of the Cowboys collection of Civil War books sit among a few of his favorite things.

A few of our Bible collection sit on the bottom of our t.v stand . . .





Devotionals and children's story Bible.  I also have a collection of Department 56 Dickens villages.
I love the church's so they are displayed all years.  The rest of the collection is displayed at Christmas.

Another set of shelves in our bedroom hold a few of  the Cowboys Duck Decoys and a few of my journals

A few antique books .   In small spaces you have to search for different ways to store items.


More books on the fireplace mantle

A few Cookbooks rest on a vintage shelf atop the refrigerator . . .

A few more rest behind my collection of vintage Blue Mason jars

More cookbooks in the laundry room.

And many more sadly sit in boxes in storage.

 I love books so much that I even stacked a few and made a Christmas tree.


I love books so much I even have a virtual book shelf that sits on my sidebar.

I began a Shelfari shelf to organize the books that I've read.   The Cowboy picks up books for me at the library.  I sit at my computer look for books in the library catalogue and request them then The Cowboy
picks them up.

A couple of times I've accidentally requested books I've already read.  So the Shelfari helps me keep track.

I've never counted how many books we have.  I've always wanted a room filled with books.  I don't only have a room filled...I have a Cottage filled.
