Sewing Room Plans for the New Year

I have a few goals for the sewing room this year.  I found this wonderful party to share my ideas and plans and journal my process and progress.

At the top of the list
Organize my sewing room and storage spaces!
We moved in Oct.  This week I got shelving.

Here are the rest of my plans in random order.
  •  Make a Christmas tree quilt like this one

Patchwork Tree Quilt Block Tutorial by Amy Smart | Diary of a Quilter:  or maybe this one THE cutest tree quilt, using free tutorial from Diary of a Quilter and a fabric kit from Stitch Supply Co. See this Instagram photo by @kelbysews • 1,080 likes:
I have had the traditional one on my Pinterest board for two years.
I just found this bright one a couple of days ago.  I love them both. Maybe I'll make both!  I'll be using a super simple paper  piecing method so they will stitch up fast!  I have a lot of ideas on my Pinterest board.  It's over here. There are pillows and stockings too.
  • I also want to join a few link parties.  I love the Rainbow Scrap Challenge each month a different color is chosen and you make a project using the specified color.  It's a great way to focus and get some things made.  Kind of like taking a class and having to do a show and tell!  The party is over here
  • I have too many WIP's to count.  I hope to finish some.  I have a Piecemakers 2 actually calendar quilt to finish.  Both are mostly done.  I have them put back because I was waiting to quilt them myself.  Needed some practise.  Image result for piecemakers calendar quilts This is the one I hope to finish.  All the main applique is done.  I am not putting the pieced sun in the top and I probably won't do the corners like the photo.  I am planning on doing free motion quilting on each section.  I've never done a large fmq before and I think sections will be easier.
  • I pieced a quilt in the Fall it's ready to be quilted.  It will be fast.  Just simple straight lines.T: The first three rows.  This was so fun to piece.   It's meant to be a pumpkin patch at night.  I added a few greens for the leaves.  The blacks have a lot of glittery stars.  I will quilt in black just simple lines randomly spaced.  Amazingly all these fabrics were in my stash.  I just cut random width strips.   I set the rows staggered so there was no matching.
I have a list of quilts and throws that I want to make this year...
I also want to make a Christmas throw for the couch.  The tree I mentioned earlier I hope to hang on a wall.

I want make a fall themed  throw for my green house room.

I do have some big plans this year.  I hope to have the time and the energy to pull off at least a few of my plans.

I better get busy!  Starting on Monday I'll be sharing more quilt theme posts here.  Leading up to my annual 12 Hours of Quilts on New Years Eve.

I hope you'll come by all week and spend some time with me on New Years Day I just might be featuring your quilt!

I'm going to sit down and rest awhile and think about all my plans!

Merry Christmas

A Cozy Christmasy Friday Nigh

Image result for snowy blog post dividers
There is nothing I like better to do on a 'home alone' Friday night.
I enjoy a cozy evening when it is frigid outside staying indoors and visiting amazing quilt bloggers.

When Friday Leads To Saturday

On an occasional Friday night you might find me over at
Amanda Jean's blog for Finish It Friday.  (click here

I enjoy a peaceful evening with a glass of wine sitting at my computer and getting inspiration from the usual over 100 links displaying gorgeous quilts.

This morning I was inspired to gather a few fabrics together  and join some of the Pink Saturday Parties . . .
T:        T:
My goal was to take these more modern themes and combine with more traditional and vintage fabrics . . .

Each block is different. I tried not to use the same fabric twice.
But I am sure eventually I will.
T:
                        Some fabrics are barely pink

I sewed up a few blocks . . .
Pink Quilt blocks:

Here is one  of the fabrics I pulled out and couldn't talk myself into cutting up . . .

I just can't seem to cut this fabric!  Silly I know.   Maybe someday.

T:

T:
I sewed a few more blocks and then I remembered about the monthly challenge over at So Scrappy and decided to step out of my comfort zone . . .
T:
The challenge was to combine pink and lime green.  Still a work in progress.  We'll see how this one turns out!

This is another one of those projects that I am clueless what I'll do with it.

There's always the option of a gift, a charity quilt or even maybe letting my mom sell at a craft sale.

I'm still in a Pink mood so back to the sewing machine for me!

                       Enjoy your weekend!

Should I Make A . . .

. . . Blue quilt?
Sunshine quilt in blue - I have this pattern in Modern Quilts Unlimited Digital copy on my desktop or Quilt folder:
                                                              Source

I was drawn to the colors and the simplicity of the pattern.

But, I'm not sure how I like the unstructured scattered feel of the layout.

I guess I'll have to think about it and get a few suggestions.

                             So, what do you suggest?
Should I make a Blue quilt?

Finished It But . . .

This week I worked on using up my stash of fabrics . . .
                                T:
I had this stack of precuts plus abijillion more.  And I made this . . .
Quilt Top:
It turned out much cuter than I expected even with a mistake . . .
Quilt Opps:
That thankfully was the very last block. My poor doggies are upside down!
I made this in an attempt at using up all those cut blocks.  That were mostly florals.   Which needed to be used.  I certainly stepped out of my comfort zone by putting all these fabrics and themes together.
And, I was on a roll until I ran out of thread.  So this little number sits and waits for the fabulous border  I have planned.

But when I'm in a mood to sew I can't be stopped.
I found a spool of navy thread and I produced these . . .
Blue Quilt Blocks:
And a close up of a couple of the blocks . . .
Blue Block 3:
I was using these pre-cuts.  Most of the center blocks were small.
The centers are 2"
Blue Block 2:
Love how the pink one turned out!
Blue Block 1:
I seriously have no idea where that white thread came from.
There is no white or even very light grey in this cottage. (that I know  of! ).  I sewed this entire group of blocks with Navy thread.

I am indeed a Maverick quilter.

Thanks for coming over.  I'm going back to the sewing room as soon as I finish cooking dinner!

Tonight I'm linking with . . .

and Blue Monday and a few other linky's I'll add later!  HeHe.

The Call Of The . . .

Wild?  Nope.  It's the call of the sewing room.
T:
My little workhorse sewing machine has been whispering to me.

And then the other day I was sitting down working on the Art Journal for my daughter and these teeny tiny little fabric blocks
chimed in . . .
blocks:
They've been sitting in this cute little box for forever. (sorry this shot is blurry)

I wasn't even thinking about them and then . . .
Log cabin blocks with Kaffe Fassett fabrics and fussy-cut centers. Wanda Hanson, 2009, Exuberant Color:

I saw this and my heart went pitter patter.  But I kept telling them I'm too busy to sew.  And then this morning I saw this!
log cabin heart quilt- something different:
And crazy person that I am I realized I needed a heart quilt for Valentines Day!
So the heart pillows I was thinking about making today. Hmm.
We'll see what happens.

I might end up making pillows.  I don't have a pattern for this quilt.
I'm 'winging it' but that's what I usually do.

Stay tuned...

Oh and this beckoned me too . . .
What a pleasure it has been to share a month of sewing goodness with you. Today we deliver another designer guest post from Tamara Kate designs. You may remember Tamara from an earlier post where s...::

A breathtaking quilt by Quilt Artist Laurie Britt.  I searched through the links to find the maker of this work of art.
Laurie's work is amazing.  This is NOT an inspiration piece.
I'll never be able to do anything like this!  I am absolutely in 'awe'.

Even though I didn't actually post the quilts in the series in a specific order I did save this one to the end.

I hope you've enjoyed touring my Pinterest board and getting into
my eclectic brain a little!

With that said you'll never quess what I have planned for 2016!

This one is a little like #1.  It speaks to my fascination circular
quilting.
Don't get me wrong.  I'm not a sports fan.  I just love the quilt.

                          So simple.

Quilt An Hour #9

Winding down with #9 . . .
Another departure.  Bear with me.
I love this . . .
it dawned on me this morning while i was cutting strips out of some aqua and red prints i’ve been collecting, that a DIY jelly roll of your favorite fabrics would be a great gift for a friend, family member, neighbor or co-worker who also has the quilting ‘bug’ aka addiction.. i thought i’d share …:
