Then Sings My Soul Saturday

http://signsmiraclesand wonders.blogspot.com
The words to the chorus of this song I have not been able to get out of my head the last few days. Then sings my soul....
At the cross. At the cross where I fist saw the light. And the burden of my heart rolled away. It was there by faith I receive my sight and now I am happy all the day.

I wasn't sure if I would find a video for this old hymn. Here is what I found.

Have a Blessed day...and visit Amy for more songs of faith.

Share and Tell

Welcome to my friday weekly event Share and Tell today I want to introduce one of my favortire places to visit everyday. Many of you may know Kelli from Show and Tell Friday I have sent you over there to visit. But in case you haven't stopped over there yet you are missing a treat.

Kelli writes almost everyday. She has a lovely little blog. She does lovely little virtual tours of house and yard. She is an amazing cook and shares some of her favorite recipes with beautiful photos on her sidebar. She also hosts a weekly papercrafting meme and does a giveway.
She shares much about her lovely family and has lots of photos of their activities. I don't know where she finds the time because she homeschools but I am glad she does. I love visiting her. I am always encouraged to be a better homemaker. I think that she is a true Proverbs 31 Woman. I send sweet Blessings today to my dear 'sister' Kelli. Why don't you go over and say '"hi" and don't forget to tell her I sent you.

Before you go I have another ministry story to share. No photo today. I thought you might be cheered by what happened last night at reading group.

There was a sweet sweet spirit . . .

I never know what to expect when I arrive at the halfway house. In fact I was there early in the day for a luncheon board meeting. Our meeting room was being used and we waited for awhile before deciding to start the meeting in the day room. Then when the room became available we had to move in the middle of the meeting.

Not such a sweet spirit

Then when it was time for Bible study the girls were in the middle of a movie because staff was having a meeting in our room again. Well when they were done what was I to do? Tell the girls to turn off the tv in the middle of the movie. I patiently waited and finally staff decided to tell the girls that it was time for reading group. 6 of the 12 girls decided to come to the group.

We took a little diversion from our regular text we have been reading Women of the Bible a wonderful study book that has daily readings beginning with the story of the woman written more like a novel it is followed by history and then prayer and devotion. I love the book.

We read last night a Cowboy joke book because we wanted to talk to the girls about prayer and about the new building project. My Cowboy began telling them about the project and before he could even ask them to pray one of the girls said "let's pray now." . And we did. She said Let's hold hands and we prayed. There was a sweet spirit in that place.

Those girls lifted me up and God gave me affirmation. What we are doing is making a difference. They are learning what we are teaching them. I am learning patience and I am learning to Wait on God and trust him. I am stumbling trying not to step out on my own and work at making the new building a reality but I know that if I put my faith and trust in the Lord that he will lead me where he wants me to go and I know I will find A Sweet Sweet Spirit

Thankful Thursday

Lynn our hostess for Thankful Thursday asks "As you think about your Thankful Thursday post, consider your heart. Write about obedience or hearing the voice of God. "

This is a perfect topic for me today because for the last two weeks I have been seeking God's direction and trying to stay obediant to his will. Below is my fourth installment in my virtual misssion trip. Please read it before you go and see all the other great Thankful Thursday posts.

I am thankful for...sunshine because the vegtable garden is loving it...I am thankful for the wonderful rain we had Tuesday night because the garden loved it too....I am thankful that our landlord let us turn our horse and donkeys out on the entire 180 acres and that they came home last night for dinner on their own well actually we tried to call them up at the regular supper time but the donkeys just hehawed and kept eating grass. They did come home about 9:30. We fed them and put them to bed. And I am thankful that even when I am not obedient that God gives me grace.

Before you go I want to share with you a little about our boys ministry. Here's a photo.

These boys are in our Auto Mission program. I am not sure exactly what they are working on in this photo but I wanted to share it because you can see the cross hanging on the wall.
One thing I didn't mention in my other posts this week is that the teen courts, jails and prison systems we work with allow us to "witness" to the kids. Every kid that comes to our programs knows that our programs are Faith Based. One court in North Richland Hills we live in the DFW area so we get gets from many different cities sent every kid they could to our programs because they saw the difference it was making in the lives of the teens. One boy in particular stood before the judge crying and said "Please don't send me to Auto Mission they will change me!" This was after he yelled "Shut up" to his mom when she started to answer one of the questions the judge asked. And because of his attitude and at the request of his mother he was assigned to Auto Mission. But before you get to hear the end of his story I want to share a little more about our programs. Here's another photo.

This group of boys and the man on the left are working on a special project car. Lyle the adult is one of our volunteers. He comes everyday after work and shares his knowledge and skills with the boys. And he shares his heart for God. It isn't difficult to get caught up in the ministry. Many of our volunteers pour the heart into this work.

All the cars that are worked on at Auto Mission are donated to other programs that donate them to families or to ladies that have been in abusive relationships and living in a program facility. Some of the cars are sold for operating expenses.

Our programs are supported by fundraisers, grants and by indivdual donations. So occassionally we have to sell cars to pay the bills. We have donated many vehicles to special groups or programs. We restored a handicapped van and it was sent to Mexico to a pastor that travels to different farming communities with his wife in the back of a truck. His wife is handicapped but now because of God's provision they have a van that she can ride in.

These are just a few of the stories I could tell you.
Here is the post I wrote Monday about our girls ministry. I followed up on Tuesday with more photos.

Thank you for coming along on my journey and I covet your prayers as we seek God's will and direction. Last week I began sharing my journey to obediance Here. Today I continue to seek Gods direction and I join Lynn in praying for God's mercy and grace.

Lord, I have held onto this thing. I have heard you say, “Sherry, get rid of it. I will wait as long as it takes.” Oh Lord, let today be that day. I want to be part of your plan this summer. I want to see new horizons and the fantastic surprises you have waiting for me and for the ministry. Lord, today, I surrender it to you. Do not let me ever take it back. Bind the enemy who will tempt me and protect me from this sin. When I feel weak, Lord surround me with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. I ask all this in the powerful name of Jesus, my Redeemer. Amen.

Where Do All The Quilts Go . . .

Welcome back to day two of my week long Ministry tour. Join us and go on a Mission Trip this week without leaving your computer chair.

Yesterday I told a little about the sewing program of our girls ministry. Above is a collage of some of the quilts.

Here's another group...

This was a special project we did our first two years. All these and about 90 more were made for our local school district parenting teens. Every quilt had a teddy bear on it. And they are all totally differnt. Some with applique, some rag quilts, some just plain 'ole piecing. This was a fun project we worked on for about 6 months both years. For me as an instructor it was fun teaching the girls different things.

Our third year we gave 48 child size quilts to a local children's home. Most of them were just simple pieced quilts like the ones at the top of the post.

Years 2 and 3 we also sent over 100 simple baby quilts and fabric drawstring bags to a ministry in Dr. Aroyo Mexico. "Mesas" serves food to people that have relatives in the hospital. The "Mesas" missionaries are not allowed into the hospital so they serve food across the street and minister.

We have donated more quilts than I can count or remember to our local quilt guild to distribute to our county hospital.

This will have to be a short tour...I hope you have enjoyed. I am keeping the grandbaby today and duty calls.

Have a Blessed Day

Mission 4 Monday ...the week

Welcome to Mission 4 Monday hosted by Peggy. This week I am dedicating the entire week to our ministry. Last week I asked for your prayers and I have so felt them. God has given me a peace as we wait for his direction that I have never felt before.

I have not spent a lot of time writing about the ministry here and many of you have had questions so this week I'll share a different program each day.

Today our girls teen court Community Service program called Mission Makeover. Here's a couple of photo's.

As you can see some of the girls love their picture taken. Some don't...you know how we are if our hair isn't just right or we don't like what we're wearing. Or we just flat don't like our picture taken.

When these girls walked through our door they had never seen a sewing machine. These little quilt tops were stitched from pre-cut squares on thier first day. You can see from the smiles how happy and excited the girls are when they are able to see a finished product.

These girls came to use from teen court. The girl in the top photo was 13. She sent to us for fighting in school. And the sad thing is she isn't the youngest. The youngest girl we have ever had was ten.

Girls are sent for reasons from fighting in school to theft under $50.00 to drugs, drinking, traffic violations and many more reasons. A typical sentence is 30 to 60 hours community service.

One summer I had two 15 year old girls sentenced to 300 hours because the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission raided the party they were at. If you have teenagers. The best thing you can do as a parent is know thier friends and encourage them to be careful where they go. Even though they have made the decision not to drink or do drugs if they have friends that do it is easy to get caught up in situations that they cannot control.

That is what happened to Chelsea and Megan. They were good kids. They just followed the crowd. This happened the end of thier 9th grade year. They had just been accepted onto the school drill team. They got kicked off the team. They soon learned one simple (or not so simple) mistake changed things forever. Thankfully these two girls made positive decisions after the incident. Thankfully we were allowed alot of time with them and thankfully they opened thier hearts to God. And thankfully they had supportive parents.

But that is not the case with the majority of the teens we work. Most of them have never met their father. Either because they are unsure who he is or because he is in prison. Many of them live with grandparents because both parents are in prison.

Many of them have no Hope. Most of them we end up in prison. Most of them the only Hope is a relationship with God. And that is our calling to share God's love with hurting teens and provide them with Healing Opportunity Purpose and Education

I hope you are looking forward coming back tomorrow. I have many more stories and many more programs to share. Thanks for stopping in today and thank you for your prayers for me, Cowboy, the ministry and the kids.

Then Sings My Soul Saturady

Today I don't have a video because I have not been able to find a video for the song I am sharing. I have shared this song before on my short lived Wednesday meme More Than a Friend. This week especially I have felt God's precense from all the wonderful comments left and the lovely prayers. Many friends visited and read this post
And so today I dedicate this Then Sings My Soul post to all my friends that have been More than a friend to me this week. My Cowboy and I are still seeking God's direction for our ministry. Please pray for us as we wait for his timing and seek his will.
I hope you enjoy the song on my new playlist by Watermark.

Thankful Thursday

Many things I am thankful for today. I am thankful for the peace that God has given me concerning our ministry and the decisions we have to make really soon. I am thankful for all your prayers and sweet words of encouragement. I am thankful for all you my friends. And for Lynn who is hosting Thankful Thursday for Iris

On Monday I wrote a post about our ministry and our prayer request for wisdom and guidance you can read it below please join with me and pray for God's guidance.

Welcome to My Journey...yesterday I shared with you one of my passions. Today I share with you my heart and my confusion and my need.I have received many sweet and encouraging comments and emails from you my sisters in blog land. I have received many visits from some lurkers that I hope are touched by the things that I write about. Today I need to write about a struggle that I am going through and to ask you all my dear sisters to pray for me and pray for our ministry. Because I need to know the will of God. Is that a question you ask too? I know we all from time to time ask God many questions like Why when something bad happens. Or When...when we want or need something. But before I go on to share with you the answers I need from God let me share with you about my passions. Not necessarily in order of priority. Just ramdomly sharing my heart. Passion A...becoming a woman of God. Praying and wishing that God would say words like Well done and Woman after my own heartPassion B...My children and grandchildren.Passion C...I love horses and anything about them. Passion D...our ministry and working with kids.My hearts desire is to do what God wants me to do. But, I have a hard time knowing what that is. I am one of those that tends to do a lot of good things like the ministry and then ask God to Bless my work. Does that make sense? We have been in fulltime ministry for 6 years. This means my husband has not had a paying job in 6 years. We have a 3 bedroom house (rented) on 5 acreas. We have one horse and a multitude of other pets. We have an old worn out truck. We have a convertible mustang (alot of fun)which was donated to us. Today we have electricity, propane gas for heat, cooking and hot water, inter-net and cable t.v., trash pick up (pay extra not on our water bill) oh and well water and a cell phone with texting. I said today we have these things because there are times that we don't have the money to pay our bills. We spend a lot of money in reconnection fee's. For 6 years we have said the statement 11th Hourmore times than I would have liked. For 6 years I have been a whiner many times. And asked those questions of God that I mentioned earlier. Remember I mentioned my Passions...that included:ministry, family,God,working with kids which actually means teenagers in prison and horses. One of my biggest passions is horses. Remember I said those passions were listed randomly. I would have difficulty prioritizing them. For over 20 years it has been my hearts desire to use horses in a way to help kids. I didn't know how exactly. There are lots of different ways: a ranch for kids, lessons, theraputic riding. For years I have read about others and wished and dreamed about being a part of that type of ministry. I didn't really look at it was a ministry I just wanted to help kids through horses. Two of my passions. I find myself, my Cowboy the ministry with an opportunity. And at cross roads. The opportunity is a building that would house our food pantry and sewing classroom and Bible study classroom, and multi purpose classroom. And an arena with cattle pens for working cattle. Our ministry has been homeless for over a year. We have donated office space. We have donated storage space for pantry. And we use prison facility classrooms for Bible Study and sewing classes. And so probably more so than ever in the last 6 years we need God's guidance and direction. We need to know that this is God's will for this ministry. That it isn't just my hearts desire but that God put that desire into my heart and that he is opening the door or gate in this instance. And so my dear new friends I ask and covet your prayers for our ministry. For myself and cowboy. For God to show us without a doubt this is where he wants the ministry to go and where our new home will be. You see I have lots of old friends that would jump at the chance to resurrect this building and facility. I could spend many hours writing grants and writing friends and doing fundraisers to make this happen. To get/receive my hearts desire But is it God's?I cherish your prayers. I cherish your words of encouragement. Please come by and visit me and please lift up this prayer request. Thank you dear ones for coming along with me on The Journey

Wordfilled Wednesday

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways." declares the Lord. "As the heavens reach higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" Isaiah 55:8&9

Seeking God's direction...Thank you for your prayers.

Wordfilled Wednesday is hosted by Amy go by and visit for more illustrations of God's word.

Before you go I am seeking God's direction would you read my post from yesterday and pray for me and our ministry.

Welcome to My Journey...yesterday I shared with you one of my passions. Today I share with you my heart and my confusion and my need.

I have received many sweet and encouraging comments and emails from you my sisters in blog land. I have received many visits from some lurkers that I hope are touched by the things that I write about.

" YOU WERE MADE FOR A MISSION"*
Matthew 28:19 "...Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." >
Peggy hosts Mission 4 Monday a place where you can share how you are answering God's calling to be a servant. Many of my friends have asked many questions about the mission work that I do along with my Cowboy and with lots of other volunteers. We have used the words from Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life. . . "God is at work in the world and He wants YOU to join him"
Peggy also uses these words to invite others to join our group on Monday.
Since so many of you have asked to know more about our work today I want to share a little more and direct you to our ministry blog.
We work with troubled teens. Our primary programming efforts currently are inside a prison unit for teenagers. Actually two units a boys treatment facility just minutes from our house and a girls halfway house. Both are considered halfway houses and are not behind wire (a fence with barbed wire on top) However the teens have been in a regular prison unite prior to coming here.
We provide a lot of different programs for the youth. We do a reading group every Thursday for the girls and we have what we call dinner date. Cowboy and I invite another couple of another woman to come to the house for dinner. During regular meals the girls are not allowed to talk. One dinner date though we have a private meal in the school classroom. (there is school on both campus's)
Speaking of school that is something that is discouraging to us. The teens only get a GED. The really have the opportunity to work toward diploma but the system takes the easy way out. Which is not the best way for the youth.
We also plan monthly activity nights with the girls. The next one will be in June and we will be having a family Christmas party. Activity nights are events when we invite people that we know to come and meet the girls. And hopefully decide to meet God where he is working. The purpose for Chirstmas in June is because the girls that are there now won't be there in December. And many have never had a real Christmas. We will have Santa and each girl will get a Barnabas bear from Family Christian Book Store. The bears tag has the plan of Salvation on it.
We also provide a food pantry for teens that have already gotten out of prison and are on parole.
This keeps us really busy and is really very rewarding.
Currently Cowboy is in school. He is taking classes to become a certified drivers education teacher. And so when he is done we will be offering drivers ed. classes to the boys and the girls. One of thier biggest obstacles once "getting out" is getting a drivers license. And so they just drive without a license. It is indeed a vicious circle that they are in.
But with God's help some make it and become productive and break the cycle. I have many stories of kids that have made drastic changes in their lives. I have a few stories of teens that have come to know the Lord and made drastic changes. I have more stories than I could ever possibly mention of teens that have heard about God's love and have a seed growing within them that hopefully someone else will water and that someday someone else that answers God's call to meet him where he is working will reap the harvest.
Before I go here's what Peggy says about Mission 4 Monday....and below is the link to the ministry blog

The purpose of MISSION 4 MONDAY is to share YOUR MISSION each week.
According to Rick Warren* in his book "The Purpose Driven Life"...
"You were made for a Mission" is Purpose #5
"God is at work in the world and He wants YOU to join Him."
"The assignment is called YOUR MISSION..."
"Your ministry is your service to believers and
YOUR MISSION is your service to unbelievers."
"God has given you a Life Message to share..."

Share and Tell

welcome to Share and Tell Friday...I started this a couple of weeks ago and I am loving sharing with my readers the places I visit and the people I meet. The concept is to share a site or post that truly inspired or encouraged you this week.
I have had a long, long. Busy, busy week as you might haven't noticed no posts from me. And in my business I haven't gotten to read a lot and this morning I wasn't sure who I would share. I had read a couple of posts earlier in the week but in my rushed and hurried schedule I didn't take note of them. Hopefully I will slow down this weekend and find them and share with you.
But today I am sending you back over to Sarah Mae. She has a lovely blog and writes about home and family and what she is learning on her Journey with God. She even ended today's post speaking of her Journey.

Here is part of what she say's today...

"The sons of Ephraim were archers equipped with bows, yet they turned back in the day of battle." Psalm 78:9
"Are you facing a battle?
I battle daily with keeping my time with the Lord sacred, my affection for my husband alive, my teaching to my children consistent, my home in order, myself showered, and my own sin nature in check (by God's grace).

It is so easy to give up, to try and escape. We escape in many ways-the Internet, books, TV, friends, etc. We don't know how to push through our emotions, our tiredness, or our failures. We get stuck. We feel lost...abandoned. Our marriages lack real intimacy. We are scared to death that if we try again, we'll just fail again, so why bother. We give in. " Sarah Mae

These words really touched me this morning. Sometimes I am stuck, lost and I feel abandoned I need reminding that I need to lean on my heavenly father. Today I am rushed and I have a million things that need to be done before 2:00 and so I lean on God's grace and his sufficiency to get me through the day.

I hope your day is Blessed I hope that you lean on God.

Please visit my friend Kelli for Show and Tell it is a fun stop.

super Sunday

Super Sunday at Peggy's

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that
whoever believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

May you rest in His assurance today.

Share and Tell Friday

Welcome to Share and Tell Friday. I had the idea to start this couple of weeks ago and I hope that it will catch on. I love blogging. I love reading blogs. I love decorating blogs, I love family blogs. I love bloggers that dedicate thier blogs to Blogging for Jesus or I love to read SAHM bloggers.

And today I want to share with you Sarah Mae that is a SAHM I met this week. I read her Wednesday post. And I intended to direct you there. But when I went there earlier I realized that I was just as encouraged with todays post.

For me it was a blessing because I work with teenagers that don't have parents like this one. I work with girls that have been abused and neglected. If you read my blog you will know that this breaks my heart. And that I feel God's calling to work with these kids and to share God's love with them.

This is a verse I found at Sarah Mae's

"Don't you see that children are God's best gift? the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?" Psalm 127:3 (The Message)

Even though I have a unique reason for being so blessed today by visiting Sarah Mae I know that you will be Blessed by visiting her. Today she even shared some blogs she enjoys. I didn't take the time yet to check them out but I am on my way back over there.

And BTW my favorite place on Fridays is Kellis House for Show and Tell go by and see her and tell her I sent you.

Have a Blessed weekend and come back tomorrow for Then Sings My Soul
