To Fetch a Scoundrel From Another Point of View: A Secondary Character Speaks

Mutt Mysteries authors want to give the stage to some of their novellas’ secondary characters. Main characters can hog the spotlight; their perspectives of how plots unfold appear in other summaries. Listen here to how other characters describe the actions and canines in the three of the four “tails” of scandal and murder in To Fetch a Scoundrel.
From Rosemary Shomaker’s “Ruff Goodbye” character Sharon Powell: Hi. I’m Sharon Powell. In “Ruff Goodbye,” we say goodbye to my husband Curtis Powell. The story opens with Curt’s best friend Len Hayes holding a P&P Club meeting in Curt’s honor at Len’s restaurant, The Beacon. The club began as a Port & Porn Club, but that got the members into a sticky situation, compliments of one scoundrel. My husband Curt disapproved, as did other members, and the club became the Port & Poker Club. Clarion, a quiet black Lab makes a cameo appearance as Len, Perry, George, and Charlie drink port wine and salute Curt. I’m not at this gathering, but Len’s wife tells me that Len told her that Perry was out of line at the meeting.
I directly experience Perry’s misconduct the next evening at Curt’s funeral home visitation. He gets “handy” with me in the parking lot, the oaf! Thank goodness Len and Joyce are there to support me, because the antics of Perry and of Lucy Powell, Curt’s ex-wife, fray my nerves. My daughter Julie (Curt’s stepdaughter) and Curt’s miniature poodle Cloud liven things up at the funeral home, too. People from Curt’s past, including a suspect in a deadly warehouse accident and old co-workers, attend the event, as do Curt and Lucy’s three sons. A “cloud” from my past also shadows the event. A viewing—yep, open casket—for a local, ahem, businessman, is held at the same time and location. I count five “scoundrels” in the story already. My husband Curt was a great guy. His friends and relatives? You’ll have to be the judge.

From Jayne Ormerod’s “Pawsitively Scandalous” character Ryleigh Duncan: Hi. I’m Ryleigh Duncan, known around my neighborhood of Grant’s Garden as a free spirit. While I may dress like a gypsy at times, it is more for comfort than a reflection of my personality. Now that I think about it, I do not like being restricted either by clothing or by societal norms. If that is the definition of a free spirit then yes, I will wear that label proudly.
I’m friends with Pilar Pruitt, who owns her own party planning business. She’s a bit more conventional than I am, but we get along well. We hang out together at the dog park. My dog Chewy (short for Chewbacca . . . yes, I’m a Star Wars fan!) and her dog Natti love to romp and play. Pilar and I like to chat and while enjoying her latest concocted beverage. You know, the kind that loosens tongues. As a result, we know each other’s darkest secrets. And we thought we knew all the secrets of our neighbors. But boy, were we wrong! Some icky stuff going on in our quiet little ’hood. Some stuff that leads to murder. Sad business, that. But all’s well that ends well when Pilar and I team up and catch the killer. In hindsight, it was a thrilling experience. But at the time, not so much. I think from now on I’ll stick to reading murder mysteries, and not living them.

From Heather Weidner’s “The Fast and the Furriest”: Hello, I’m Henry Green, and I’ve been a part of the Amelia Racetrack since its founding when I was kid in the 1960s. Auto racing is just part of our family. When my brother passed away, he willed his share of the business to my niece, Cassidy. She quit her job in marketing in a fancy building in downtown Richmond and started working full-time at the track.
Sometimes, her promotional ideas are a little out there for me, but she does a good job of keeping customers coming through the gates. My house is on the edge of the property, and she moved into her dad’s farmhouse with her Rottweiler Oliver, who’s really a big pussycat. But when he’s on duty, he’s all business. Recently, Cassidy and Oliver found the body of one of our drivers in the garage, and they helped uncover clues that led to the arrest of the murderer. It’s an interesting life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Sorry readers miss input from Teresa Inge on this subject. Teresa’s “A Doggone Scandal” in To Fetch a Scoundrel features Yorkies Cagney and Lacey and Catt Ramsey, owner of Woof-Pack Dog Walkers. Whose voice would you want to hear? Secondary character Jonathan Ray would have opinions on Catt’s and her sister Emma’s proclivity for sleuthing!

About the book
The mystery-solving mutts are back! To Fetch a Scoundrel, the second in the Mutt Mysteries collection, features four tail-wagging novellas. Each story puts pups’ noses to the ground, as scandals are unleashed and killers are collared. Once you’ve finished reading these tall “tails,” you’ll no longer wonder, “Who let the dogs out?” You’ll just be glad somebody did!

Menu Monday-On The Dinner Plate

Hello and Welcome to a new beautiful week.  It's Spring Time!
That makes me smile
Pink Pig With Pearls & Pink Glasses | Cute animals, Piggy
This does too! He He

And now let's talk about the dinner plate. Do you love to cook?
I do.  I love trying to make something yummy and creative and pretty.
Lately I don't get too pretty with anything it's all I can do to get something on the plate.
But I dream of some day making pretty plates and decorating my
table.
I've been thinking about just making the Cowboys place setting pretty.  Using my good dishes and putting them on the tray for his meals.

The Cowboys not too into tea parties.  But I think I could dress his tray with pretty plates and maybe cheer him a bit.
Do you set a pretty table?
Do you eat at the table?
We don't so much anymore.  But I still try to make a good meal.
Here's a few we've had in the last few days . . .

The Cowboy likes Pork with Stuffing.   We had the leftover smoked Pork Loin and boxed Stuffing.  I tweek it by cooking Onions and Celery in Chicken Broth and either stirring in or pouring over depending on how stiff it is.  Makes it taste a little more homemade. We  had a simple salad.
Pork Loin and Stuffing.  He ate every bite and then snuck in the kitchen looking for dessert.
His portions are a little wonky.  We had Rotisserie Chick I cooked in out handy dandy Rostisseire.  Mashed Potato's and French Style Green Beans.  Not his favoirte but we grabbed the wrong can.  I tweek canned Green Beans normally by starting with a slice of bacon.  But we didn't have bacon so I just added a couple Tablespoons of Butter then filled the can with water and cooked the tar our of 'em.  We like them this way.  I did make package gravy though.
One of my favorite meals from the week.  Leftover Rotissierie Chick Pizza.  I had a flat bread type crust.  I made an Alfredo Sauce and Grilled Tomato's, Red Onions, Garlic and Bell Peppers in the oven first. Then I put them on the Pizza.  All we had for Cheese was Jalepeno it actually was very yummy.  I liked the consistancy of the Cheese.  The greens on the Pizza are guess what!  Kale from my garden!  It was all verry Yummy!

That Chicken went a long way.  Took the last wing and slathered it in Baby Ray's Wing Sauce . . .

A big mug of Cream of Chicken, Broccoli and Cauliflower Soup made a Cozy meal on a day it was a little cold.  He seems to like my Cream Soups.  They are super easy to make.

I marinated a Flank Steak overnight and then cooked on the Rotissierie for Fajita's.  They were very good.  The Cowboy even ate my Rice.  He isn't a Rice fan.  I put Carrots and Peas in the Rice.  I lost my recipe and had to wing it.  I think it turned out great I have made this recipe for over 20 years I pretty much remember it.
Before I closed up the Fajita.  Lot's of Peppers, Onions, Meat, Cheese and a touch of Sour Cream.
The Cowboy helped by slicing the meat rather thin.  I went a head and cut each piece long ways in half so it would be easier to chew.

And then on Saturday we ran a couple of errands.  The Cowboy bought a cordless drill for less than $20.00 at Harbor Freight.  Now we can hang our curtains and complete a few more tasks around the house!
Here's what we had for lunch. . .
Another car picnic.  It was fun.  The weather was beautiful.
We watched all the people driving in and out of the parking lot and on the road thinking. . . Did these people not hear the stay at home order.
I guess they all saw the Harbor Freight Ad!

I did make a bit more of an effort in the plating.  I made a homemade Ceasar Salad.  Man hadn't done that in years.  My egg was a little over cooked but it was still yummy.  I love this green plates that I used as a platter to hold the bowl.  I bought these years and years and years ago at Pier One.

And the last of the Chicken.  A little Alfredo Sauce and we had a hearty  and simple meal.
The Cowboy cleaned is dish except for the Garlic Bread I made out of Oatmeal Bread.  He took one bite because I asked him to.

And so now I need to plan a few meals for the new week.
Sheesh.
Just finished the last week!

I hope you have a wonderfully Blessed week
and
East some

Fabulous Food!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday – AP Creations in Tuscaloosa
Good Morning everyone.  I hope you are all well and have a Great Day planned today.

Whether you are stuck at home and bored.  Or busy let's call this
a day of Peace, Joy and Happiness . . .

Thankful Thursday

Today I am Thankful that I can be at home.
My husband is ill the last few months of 2019 and 1st couple of months this year were a struggle with working and going to the hospital and taking care of him.
I am Thankful that he seems to be stable and we are managing his illness.  No hospital visits/stays in 7 weeks.

Praise The Lord

I am Thankful that the weather has been warmer. It's actually been hot the last couple days.  The Cowboy has spent some time outside and even pushed the mower a few times yesterday.

I am Thankful again for being home so I can work in the garden. It is more important now for us to grow what we can.  It is hard to go to the grocery store and we have to be super careful because he is high risk.

I am Thankful for our nations leaders and the work they are doing to help us all and keep us all safe and at home.

I hope you are all safe and Happy and if you need  some encouragement or just someone to 'listen' or talk to that God places people in your life that can be there for you.

Thankful Thursday Hugs - The Horse Mafia

Have A Blessed Day

Menu Monday-On The Lunch Plate/Dinner Plate

Hello Welcome to Menu Monday
Today before I 'talk' about menus I am sharing what is on my luncheon plate . . . .

Sometimes a Chili Dog just sounds good.  I cooked a Texas Style Chili Dog.

What is Texas Style you ask?
My hot dog was a Nolan Ryan hot dog.  He's famous in Texas.
I was not so enchanted with the bun though.

The Cowboy loves hot dogs, kielbasa, sausages and hot links Yes I know all those things that are not on his diet. It is what it is and I deal with it....opps TMI back to my Chili Dog
Not a keeper in my opinion.  I normally like P.F. products but I don't buy them often.  Give me a good 'ole cheap hot dog bun and I am happy.  P.F.'s was not very fresh and it was heavy kind of dense the cut top was o.k. I guess but not worth the price for me.

Let's talk a bit about menus.  Do you plan menus for your meals?

I have always been a menu planner.  I started back when the kids were young and it was easier for me to keep up with things to make plans.

A menu plan helps me stay on track and keep up with what is in the pantry and freezer.  Our freezer is usually full and unorganized.  It bothers me.

I have a goal to clean, defrost and organize it as soon as we have some good weather.

Yep it's a mess and I am tired of thinking about LOL let's shut the door and check out the dinner plate!
We had a super simple dinner the other night.  Kielbasa cooked with cabbage at The Boys request.  It was odd to me because normally he wants it on the rotisserie or grill pan not cooked with the cabbage.  A simple baked potato with bacon bits I found on sale.
A yummy chocolaty dessert.  The Cowboy opted for nuts .....
no nuts for me.  Look at those Chocolate Chips.  Yum
Another simple meal smoked pork loin, black eyes peas corn bread and salad.
Last night was that cat fish I have been planning ...
Shrimp Cocktail
I cut potatoes in chunks and put in pan with diced onions, garlic and olive oil and tossed then roasted in the oven.  At the last minute I put on grated cheese and stuck under the broiler.
Homemade Cole Slaw from the rest of the cabbage.
Since I don't have menu plan I am clueless what dinner will be.  I guess I can just pretend it's a fun surprise

Whatever it is I am sure it will be yummy
I have some yellow squash I breaded a few weeks ago and put in freezer.
They are callin my name!
