Some More S'Mores At Home

Do you love S'mores?

Ever wonder how to make the luscious fun treats even if your not hanging around a campfire?
Oven s'mores in foil. Preheat oven to 450. Place Graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallow on foil, seal, but leave enough room at top for circulation? Bake 5 to 7 min.   I was planning a camping unit for school and of course we had to do S'mores.

I didn't bother to look on Pinterest.  I just kind of winged it and put the ingredients in foil and cooked in an electric skillet on low.  Really low.  They turned out great.

I wish I could share the gooey smiling faces!

Later I got to wonderin what I might find on Pinterest.

Here's a few examples . . .

Happy Mothers Day

Can I still be a good mom if I have a compulsive need for my socks to match? The rest I've got in spades ;)

Great Buy on Pork Now What?

So I stopped at the store there was this great buy on really thick cuts of pork.  The Cowboy likes those big 'ole man size chops.

 How+to+Cook+Thick+Pork+Chops+that+Stay+Juicy
I usually pan grill with a side of spinach and rice or potatoes of some sort.

As I was driving home with my treasure I got to thinking . . .
Did I see a bone in the pork?  Got home went to put them in the fridge and Yep I was right no bone.  Now what?  I have never been really successfully with those thick 'ole pieces of boneless pork.

What do I do now?

So I decided cook in the oven with rice and some good 'ole cream soup.  Should make it tender and juicy right?  I was hopin'.

So I get my ingredients.  Chop some garlic and onions.  Fry a couple slices of bacon to cook them in.  Add a big hunk of butter and start them slowly cookin' in the bacon grease.

Then I thought.  How much rice? How much water?  Well off to Pinterest I went.

Here's the recipe I adapted . . .

15 minutes is all you need to put together this scrumptious one-dish casserole! Tender chicken breasts sit on top of a bed of creamy rice with broccoli and carrots. Topped with melted Cheddar…dinner is served!
And look heart healthy too!  Actually it didn't look anything like this.  I didn't put in broccoli, or carrots or the cheese.  Basically I just used the ratios of rice and water.  I stirred the onions and garlic into the rice mix.  Saved a little and poured onto the pork.

A good deal on pork turned out to be a great dinner!

Here's the link to the recipe Campbell's Soup Chicken Rice Bake

I love using cream soups as a base for recipes.  Do you?

There was just enough leftover rice for the dog to get a bite!

And that other ingredient I mentioned . . .

But I suspect that most teachers would say it is worth it.

It means more to me than I can express to be able to say I am a teacher.

Teacher Appreciation Ideas #teacherappreciation

Beginning a 2nd career at 'over 50' is overwhelming.  But when you realize that it's God's plan for your life it is a major Blessing.

Everyday I smile when I go to work.  It is not drudgery getting up in the morning.

Then there's My Pink board.  Just because I like Pink
vintage pink velvet sofa
If you follow my boards or my blog you can learn a lot about me.

Last night I was talking to my DIL (they live two states away)  she mentioned that the bubble bath I sent for our granddaughter in the Easter package she used on her dolls.  She can't use bubble bath in her tub.

It's hard living so far away and not seeing kids and grand kids every day.

I've never seen their house.  They built a few years ago their dream home.  After the initial home photo's they haven't sent anymore.  My DIL is a photographer so she sends tons of family and kid portrait shots but nothing else.

And so I got to thinking what if they made boards of things they like.  I have a 5 year old granddaughter and a 13 year old grandson.

I can only imagine what they would put on a Pinterest board.  Actually I know what my grandson would he already has a few boards.  He posts funny jokes and photography.

I learned last night my granddaughters prefers Rose Art crayons to Crayola!

In the words of Martha Stewart . . . Pinterest it's a Good Thing!

Do you have far away family?  Maybe suggesting they make a Pinterest Board would bring your family closer together.

I would love to hear your comment.  Or suggestions on how to
bridge the gap when your family lives far apart.

Happy Easter,
Sherry

Five Minute Friday -- Glue

Glue . . .
At Lisa Jo's she prompts us to write for 5 min.  w/o editing, backtracking just plain thoughts that come to mind.

Here goes . . .
When I think of glue today I think of new opportunities.  In January I received a huge blessing in that God directed me to a new job at a Christian school.  I currently teach 3 year olds. And I love it.  We use a lot of glue.  And a lot of paint.

They use glue straight from the bottle.  They brush it on.  Sometimes glue is mixed with paint.

Lots of opportunities in the classroom to explore.

And now I have a new opportunity.  I have been offered the PreK 4 class.

I am so excited.  I am so scared.  I am so unsure. So undecided.

So wondering if this is where God wants me.

Or do I stay stuck like glue with those sweet little ones.

It has always been my dream to teach.  I never thought I would get the opportunity.

God opened doors and I am blessed.

So this fall whether it is with 4-5 year olds or 2-3 year olds
I am going to be 'stuck' like glue!

I welcome your comments and prayers.  If your a teacher please leave a comment so I can visit your blog!

Happy Easter

How I got back in.  But I did and that is all that matters.

Hung Out To Dry or Die

Yep my brand of laundry detergent is 'hung out to die'

So a few weeks ago, on Feb 6th to be exact I bought this detergent.
It had been awhile since I've bought powder but there wasn't any
liquid on sale so I figured I would give it a try . . .

This particular box purchased at the Walmart neighborhood market just a few blocks away boasted 46 washings.

Since I was considering changing to powder to save I figured I would just check it out.  And guess what I found!  Well I got 28 washings.  Now I realize it is possible I missed a couple but 10.
And, to make it worse I didn't always measure the scoop to the full mark.

Did you notice this one is advertised at $6.99 each.  At Walmart
it was $4.99.  Boy am I glad I didn't pay $6.99

Our local 4 News has a segment called "Deal or Dude" where the test product suggested by viewers.

Well in my scientific experiment this one was a dude.

I know we're all trying to save money these
days so you might give it a try and check out just how many washings your getting from your detergent.

I am interested in knowing what kind you use.  How much do you spend?

BTW the next vacation post coming soon...Just taking a break to do laundry.
