Hello. I'm Miranda Trent, owner of Paint & Shine, my brand new business specializing in cultural adventure tours set within the Daniel Boone National Forest in eastern Kentucky. My clients paint a picture and then sample a traditional southern meal paired with moonshine. I've been back in Kentucky for a few months now and the business is catching hold with the tourists.
One of the nice things about this business is that I'm experimenting with various moonshine cocktails. Creating cocktails is my favorite part of my new business, and I've named this one Ale & Shine. I frequently pair this cocktail with fried green tomatoes.
Ale & Shine
1 1/2 ounces of clear, unflavored moonshine
Ale-8-One Soda or Mountain Dew
Squares of candied ginger
Lemon twist
Ice
Fill an 8 oz. mason jar halfway up with ice
Pour moonshine over the ice
Top up with Ale-8-One Soda or Mountain Dew
Garnish with the ginger and lemon twist.
I enjoy this kind of research. It helps me relax after a stressful day dealing with problem clients and construction issues. I especially appreciate them when the cocktails remind me so strongly of my family. I feel closer to my late Uncle Gene when I'm mixing up a moonshine cocktail. It gives me comfort.
What's your comfort beverage?
