Fall Thanksgiving Mantle

Sharing my Thankfulness.  I've decorated the mantle with things
I am thankful for.
A group shot. Thankful for my kids and grandkids.
This darling photo from last Halloween was what  started this
collection.
This is the original Fall mantle.
Looks nice.
But I love the family photo's added.
No frame for this one.  Just precious even without a frame.

A blue photo album my daughter made.  And a little bird nest.
I received as a gift from a blogger friend.  Sadly she isn't blogging anymore.
My grandson.  He was 4.  The horse was my son's horse growing up.
On the right one of my favorite photo's.  These two cousin met for the first time last fall.
My son and his family live in Missouri.  We don't get to see them often enough.
My DIL is great at sending photos.
This is our son and grandson.

 Lots to be Thankful for.
Hoping you have a Fabulous Thanksgiving.

The Perfect Tear-Book Spotlight/Author Interview/Giveaway

About the book (provided by IRead Book Tours)
Eleanor, a timid orphan, has no clue to her real purpose, but she also has no desire to become a subservient old maid, like the miserable nuns she is forced to with. Eleanor believes Edward, whom she loves, will save her from being forced to take vows. She knows Mother Superior has no intention of letting her leave–her songs are the only thing keeping the grey mist at bay. Her devastation is complete when she discovers Edward is a prince and heir to the throne, but it is the impetus she needs to leave the safety of the abbey and go in search of her long lost father.

She doesn’t get far before discovering her true destiny. With only her instincts to protect her, she must match wits with a powerful being intent on the destruction of her world. If she does not find The Perfect Tear and release its healing power into the land, she will become an accomplice in the destruction of all she loves.

Author Interview

 1. What made you write a fantasy about the spiritual survival of the human race?
With the plethora of dystopian novels where girls must learn to fight and use extreme violence to survive, I feel we’re moving towards a tipping point where girls will believe they must use violence when under any kind of threat. Woman and girls have a much stronger weapon. We have intuition, a skill that can be developed to a very high level. These are the kind of stories I would love young girls to embrace.
2. If you could put yourself as a character in your book, who would you be?
Tsera, of course. Who wouldn’t want to create universes? I love the idea of female biased energy running things.
3. What’s the scariest thing that ever happened to you?
In the dead of night, the transponder box on the electricity pole out side the bedroom window blew up. It was terrifying. My partner and I both catapulted out of bed and out of the bedroom because we thought we were under attack.
4. What advice would you give budding writers?
Hire the very best editor you can and use your test to speech for proofing. Proofing takes at least three full read-throughs using this method. The human eye misses so much.
5. What is your next project?
We find these characters nine months later and things have changed in every dimension. The stakes are extremely high once again.

Corporate Citizen-Gabriel Valjan-Book Review/Giveaway

About the book (provided by Italy Book Tours)
A call for help from an old friend lands Bianca and the crew back in Boston. On a timeout with Dante, due to revelation as in the aftermath of the showdown in Naples, Bianca is drawn to a mysterious new ally who understands the traumas of her past, and has some very real trauma of his own. Murder, designer drugs, and a hacker named Magician challenge our team, and Bianca learns that leaving Rendition behind might be much harder  than she thinks.

And I thought . . .I love suspense this series does not disappoint.
As with the earlier books in the series Corporate Citizen is suspenseful and fast paced.  Another on the edge of your seat story.
Book 5 of the series included a few new characters along with the
regulars.  The author rounds out the story with a little humor along the way.
This is a series that I would suggest the reader begin with book 1.
Although each book stands alone it is much easier to get into the story starting at the beginning.  There are a lot of characters to get to know.    I look forward to Book 6.  Book 5 ends in a cliff hanger.

I received a complimentary copy from Italy Book Tours.
A giveaway follows.
This review is posted at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and
Good Reads.
This review will also appear on My Journey Back

About the series
ROMA, UNDERGROUND (Book #1)

Savvy forensic accountant Alabaster Black is hiding in Rome from her former employer, covert U.S. organization “Rendition.” While there under an assumed name she meets Dante, an investigator, erstwhile explorer and member of the Roma Underground, a band of amateur archaeologists who map the city beneath Rome. With Italian artifacts disappearing at an alarming rate, Alabaster and Dante search for answers and create a trap for the thieves. Through a mysterious online contact Alabaster learns she is being followed, and with her safety at risk she is forced to rethink her chosen alliances and discover hidden truths about herself.

WASP’S NEST (Book #2)

In the highly anticipated sequel to Roma, Underground, Bianca returns to the U.S. for her former employer, the covert organization Rendition, to investigate Cyril Sargent and Nasonia Pharmaceutical. Although ambivalent about the assignment and uneasy about her online “friend,” Loki, she is enticed into researching what Sargent is doing with insect genetics that might upset the world of cancer research and treatment. Old friends Farrugia and Gennaro uncover a twisted conspiracy from their past and join Bianca in Boston where they will experience conflicted loyalties, question allies, and confront uncertain enemies, as they’re drawn into the wasp’s nest.

“Again, Valjan successfully conflates multiple sophisticated narratives that bring the past and present together, which the archaeological theme of the last novel also helps accomplish . . . Black is back and just as entertaining as ever.”
—Kirkus Book Reviews

“…a compelling reading, action-packed and with intriguing characters. The plot had plenty of twists and turns, some surprising secrets, and it kept me on the edge of my seat, guessing until the very end.”
—The Book Junkie

THREADING THE NEEDLE (Book #3)

Milan. Bianca’s curiosity gets a young university student murdered, but not before he gives her a file that details a secret weapon under development with defense contractor Adastra. Guilt may drive her to find justice for the slain Charlie Brooks, but she is warned by the mysterious Loki to stay away from this case that runs deep with conspiracy. Bianca must find a way to uncover government secrets and corporate alliances without returning Italy to one of its darkest hours, the decades of daily terrorism known as the “Years of Lead.”

“It is even more to Gabriel Valjan’s credit that with Threading the Needle he, as an American, was nonetheless capable of unusual insight into the Misteri Italiani, the Italian Mysteries, without taking any prejudicial standpoint, one way or the other, or putting the blame on anyone, but rather inviting readers to judge for themselves.”
—Claudio Ferrara, Italian journalist and translator

“But after the first few pages, I knew I was committed to the end of the book ... and would be reading the two earlier books…Characters, plot, ideas, background: In Threading the Needle, Valjan weaves it all into an international crime novel worth the read.”
—Beth Kannell of Kingdom Books, a specialty mystery bookshop in northeastern Vermont.

TURNING TO STONE (Book #4)

Forensic accountant Alabaster Black has always been steps ahead of her former employer, Rendition, a clandestine and apparently lethal organization. Once the star investigator of financial crimes, she fled from the United States to Italy, under a new name: Bianca Nerini. She carries on her work with a group of trusted friends, although a mysterious contact by the name of Loki reaches out to her on occasion. In this fourth installment, Bianca is in Naples against the Camorra, a crime syndicate unlike the American or Sicilian mafia.

What I thought...
I could describe this book in one word. Delightful.  It's mere 184 pages is packed with devotionals, activities and gift ideas that will make your Christmas new and special this year.  You might possibly even begin some new traditions.

There are 31 devotionals with a scripture, short story an activity suggestion and a recipe with each one.

The recipes include: lots of cookie recipes, hot chocolate and Chai Tea recipes and there are some fabulous infused oils. Also included are some great gift recipes including bath salts and soaps.
There are crafty gifts to make also.  Each day also includes a Christmas song.

My favorite devotional was #11 Tying Christmas to Easter.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year is perfect for a gift for a young family.   Christmas is a wonderful time to share your faith and this book is written in a way that believers and non believers will truly enjoy it.

Killer In The Band-Lauren Carr-Book Review/Giveaway

Doing things a little backwards this time.

Here's what I thought before
I tell you about the book! I hope you don't mind!

I can't put into words how much I loved this book!  When I was given the opportunity to read I said 'Yes' as fast as I could to make the blog tour.

And I wasn't disappointed.  Killer had me from page one and would not let me go!

This story is the 3rd book in the Lovers In Crime Series.

There are lots of characters and  multiple story lines in each of the books  I've read by La;uren at least that is what she did in the Mac Faraday series which BTW is great too.

Killer was no different. There was Joshua and Cameron Thornton and all their children.  The story was mainly about the oldest son J.J. who had just returned home from college.  He had intended a leisurely summer studying for his Bar exam.

The summer ended up being much more than everyone bargained for.

J.J. happened (at least so it seemed) to run into Sue Ellen Russell a woman yes I said woman who had mentored him in high school.
They fell in love back in the day but each went their separate ways.

When J.J. returns their affair is rekindled.  J.J. ends up moving into the family horse and orchard farm that Sue Ellen has inherited from her parents.  Together they begin the daily operations of the horse farm.

Trouble simmers in the background when (dad) Joshua . . . let's just say he isn't happy with the couple.  But Cameron (the step mom) convinces him to visit J.J. and Sue Ellen.  Taking along the younger children Izzy (an adopted child) and Donny (Joshua's 16 year old who can't stay out of the kitchen he eats everything in sight).
The friendly visit which includes pie puts everyone at ease while Izzy makes friends with dogs, cats and a rooster that no one likes.

I was in love let me tell you!

Sue Ellen drops a bomb on Cameron who is a Homicide Detective
and asks her to investigate the murder of an ex band member.
Which everyone is surprised when Dylan Matthews is found some 30 years after being murdered.

Back at the ranch Sue Ellen is overwhelmed with the daily operations and begins looking for someone to manage the horse operation.  In comes 'horse whisperer' Poppy Ashburn a mysterious woman who has every horse following her like a puppy dog within a few minutes.
Izzy who is getting out of bed early and begging to go to the barn is following Poppy around and begging for a horse of her own.
If your a regular reader of my blog you know why this story line got me.  I loved the ranch setting.

As usual Lauren does have multiple story lines going on.  There
are a few dead bodies included in the mix.

It's a fantastic read.

I do have one caution I have to add for my readers that might think about allowing a younger adult or teen read this book.
There is a part in the middle of the story. A witness involved in the cold crime has an alternative lifestyle that possibly might offend some people.  I only include this as a caution.  I would read the book and discuss this before allowing a teen to read.

Killer In The Band is probably my favorite of all the books I've read by Lauren Carr.  I look forward to reading more!

This book deserves my 5 star rating!
This review will be posted at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Good Reads.
This review will appear on My Journey Back and will be linked at my favorite blog parties.

Summer of Love & Murder

Joshua’s eldest son, Joshua “J.J.” Thornton Jr., has graduated at the top of his class from law school and returns home to spend the summer studying for the bar exam. However, to Joshua’s and Cameron’s shock and dismay, J.J. moves into the main house at Russell Ridge Farm, the largest dairy farm in the Ohio Valley, to rekindle a romance with Suellen Russell, a onetime leader of a rock group who’s twice his age. Quickly, they learn that she has been keeping a deep dark secret.

Praise for Lauren Carr’s Mysteries:

“Lauren Carr could give Agatha Christie a run for her money!”
- Charlene Mabie-Gamble, Literary R&R

“As always, Lauren Carr brings an action-packed story that is almost impossible to put down. Her mystery plots have so many twists and turns that I didn’t know if I was coming or going. And the action just didn’t stop from the very beginning till the very end.” - Melina Mason, Melina’s Book Reviews
