Author Laurel Blount brought cake . . .

Welcome!  We have a fun treat for you today.  Literally!  My author friend Laurel Blount brought cake!

And she is giving us a sneak peek of the cover of her newest book!

Aunt Estelle’s Miracle Pound Cake

Fabulous Family Favorite!

Funny how many memories are connected to our favorite recipes! This pound cake recipe has been passed down for generations in my family, and just a nibble whisks me right back to my mama’s kitchen. Sweet memories—in so many ways!

Aunt Estelle’s Miracle Pound Cake

Here’s what you need:

3 cups sugar

2 sticks butter (the original version called for Miracle Whip Margarine, but we use butter)

½ cup Crisco

4 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp almond extract

1 cup milk

3 cups unsifted cake flour (but do sift after you measure it. And using cake flour is essential—we’ve tried substitutions and they just don’t do as well!)

Here’s what you do:

Cream the butter and the Crisco together. Add the sugar, and then the eggs, one at a time. (Don’t beat this too long.) Add your milk, the sifted flour and the flavorings and mix well.

Generously grease a Bundt pan with more Crisco, sprinkle flour in it and tap it around so that the flour gets on the sides. (This cake tends to stick, so don’t Skimp on the Crisco! 😉) Put this cake into a COLD oven and bake at 300 for about 1 to 1 ½ hours or until it tests done with a toothpick.

This cake is scrumptious warm, cold, toasted or any other way you want to serve it! I’d love to say it freezes well—and I assume it does—but it’s never lasted long enough around here to find out!

Laurel's family favorite Pound Cake recipe appeared in her Reader Newsletter this month . . .

Don't you just love her photo banner.  I sure would like to sit with her on her porch!

Laurel has such a sweet spirit . . .

I know she would just smile and answer my 'BuGillion' questions!

I know you'd love sittin' on her porch too!
