In July
For those who might be new I have served my girls Home Made food for over 4 years.
We made this decision when we had Domino a little over 9 months.
At the time she would have been about 2 1/2.
In the beginning I fed Domino Chicken flavor Benaful Dry food because that is what I had fed Daisy.
We never had any problems until our store started having issues keeping it on the shelf.
I visited other stores and Chewie.com and found much higher prices.
About the same time there were several other brands that were being recalled.
At that point. I/we were done. We had lost faith in producers and wanted a healthy diet.
A diet that I knew the ingredients.
It has now been 4 years. What I seve our dogs is still evolving.
We buy 10# of White Rice a month.
And 5# of Brown Rice
I usually cook 2-3 days of Rice at a time in a big pot in the oven. I toss it in oil and cook a bit before adding water and cooking 20 minutes in the oven.
The protein the girls eat is Chicken.
Usually I buy legs and thighs. They are the easiest to bone and inexpensive.
When we can get a deal on ground Chicken or Turkey I grab it!
20 cans of Peas and Carrots
I buy about 6 cans of Corn and grind it in the Cuisinart to add to Corn Bread.
I only recently added canned Low Sodium Chick Peas as a Protein supplement when I run short on Chicken or don't get it cooked.
And they each get an Egg a day.
Either Scrambled or Poached in the morning.
They like the gooey poached Egg.
When I scramble Eggs I make enough for a couple days.
We buy 4 cans of Chicken for emergency.
We buy 2 bags of Apples each month.
I either dice or use my grater.
When we have Corn Tortillas that are not fresh enough I add them to their meal.
Carrots and Apples grate easily.
When we have fresh Parsley I chop fine and store in.
I do add Mashed Potatoes when we have leftovers.
I don't give anything that has Onions or Garlic.
Not Lola she will even drink out of a bottled water.
Last week I began offering them Icy Pops. I started slow breaking one in chunks giving each girl half in about an inch of water.
Now they are down to 1/4 of the ice pop in a cup of water.
That's a huge success!
Making our own by dog food in is a huge challenge.
Especially since moving. I don't have a dishwasher. And no back yard.
I spend alot of my day cooking, cleaning up.
And walking the dogs.
But I feel good knowing that they are be getting the best food!
Thanks for joining me today I hope your visit My Reading Journeys and see the great books being featured this week!
Tomorrow I will be sharing our dog park adventures here in Galveston.
You have very lucky pups that sure must look forward to every single meal!
